been replaced by rechazge to the HI aquifer. The overall gradual declines in water levels in well GP-3
over the last six years aze probably a function of below normal precipitation. The water level in well
GP-4 has also recovered to pre-mine levels but observed fairly steady levels in 2004 except for a large
decline in the fourth quarter.
Well GMP-1 (Figure A-11) was completed in the HI aquifer to monitor ground-water
conditions downgradient of the ash disposal site immediately south in A pit. Water levels became
steady in 2001 and stayed steady the last four yeazs, possibly a lull in the recovery from the A pit
mining due to less rechazge.
Figure A-12 also presents water levels for the well COY (alluvium). Water levels at the
COY well gradually rose in 2004 except for a decline in the fourth quarter. The unconfuied alluvial
aquifer generally responds gradually to recharge changes.
Wells GP-5 and GP-6 aze both completed in the QR aquifer. GP-5 is iuunediately

downgraclient of A pit and GP-6 is immediately upgradient of the pit. Water-level data is tabulated ur
Table A-1 in Appendix A. Figures A-13 and A-14 present water level versus time plots. Both plots
are fairly similar, with fiirly steady water levels in wells GP-5 and GP-6 in 2004. An overall rici
trend had been observed during the period of above normal precipitation while an overall smaller rise
had been observed during the below normal precipitation prior to the last two to three years. These
responses are interpreted to be due to an increase in rechazge for a few yeazs followed by a decrease in
recharge. The rise in previous few years in water levels indicate good recharge from the below average
precipitation. Rechazge in 2004 was only enough to maintain the water levels. These responses
indicate that the mining from the QR seams, which is nearest in the F pit mining that began ur 1997; has
not significantly affected water levels in GP-5 and GP-6.
Figure A-13 presents the change in water-level elevation for alluvial well P-l, located in the
Pyeatt drainage north of the PA.
