Eong
Division Director
RE: Somerset/Sanborn Creek Mine, File No. C-81-022, Annual
Hydrology Reports
Dear Mr. Wright:
The Division received the 1994 Annual Hydrology Report for the
Somerset Mine on February 2, 1995. The 1993 and 1994 reports were
both reviewed by Kent Gorham who is a Environmental Protection
Specialist in our office.'
Generally, there was a marked improvement in the monitoring
compliance in the 1994 report versus the 1993 report. However,
several questions were raised about the monitoring frequency in the
1993 report along with a couple of items in the 1994 report. Also,
there was some concern about the unusually high levels of sodium
chloride in the Rollins sandstone wells.
The Division is requesting that Somerset respond to the issue of
the missing data by February 24, 1995. Please be advised that the
Division may pursue enforcement action for the missing values if a
justifiable response about their absence is not received.
Kent's review memo is enclosed and provides more specifics about
the Division's concerns. If you have any questions, please contact
me.
Sincerely,
% 5~~
Anthon J.
