City of Golden
1445 Tenth Street, Golden, Colorado 80401
Telephone: 303/384-8151 • Facsimile: 303/384-8161
www.ci.golden.co.us
January 27, 2005
Mr. Thomas Schreiner
Division of Minerals and Geology
1313 Sherman Street, Room 215
Denver, CO 80203
RE: Annual Report
Empire Pit
Reclamation Permit No. M-1977-534
Dear M~ emer: ~(jj/V~
Attached please find the annual report form and map for the Empire Pit. Golden made
significant progress during 2004 to reclaim of the site. Construction of the water
reservoir was completed. In March 2004, the State Engineer's Office gave approval for
water storage at the reservoir and final acceptance by that office occurred on November
8, 2004. Topsoil was placed on the downstream slopes of the dam embankment and
flood levee, on the reservoir slopes, and on areas disturbed during construction. The
entire acreage where topsoil was placed was also seeded. In total, approximately 29 acres
were revegitated during 2004.
Efforts to process and remove materials stored on the property continued in 2004.
Golden has contracted for a survey of the stockpile which should be completed by late
March 2005, so the exact volume of materials removed to date is not known at this time.
However, Golden estimates that Everist Materials has processed approximately 100,000
cy of the stockpile.
The City of Golden applied for and received a permit amendment in 2004 to address
additional disturbances at the site as a result of removing and stockpiling gavel. No
additional disturbances beyond those described in the amendment occurred in 2004. No
additional disturbances are anticipated in 2005.
The City of Golden plans to focus on additional stockpile processing in 2005. Areas that
were revegitated in 2004 will be re-seeded as necessary and the stockpile will be retreated
with Soiltac and a seed mixture to minimize fugitive dust from the operation.
