Gunnison Coal Mine, two
waste rock storage areas are tentatively planned on the site.
The initial lower waste rock storage area is located north of
the proposed mine entries at the flat, lower bench at elevati
approximately 6,300 feet. This initial storage area will be
used during the first years of the mine operation.
During the later years another, larger waste rock storag
area will be established. This future upper waste rock storag
area will be developed south of the mine entries, on a large
topographical bench between elevations approximately 6,650 and
6,780 feet.
Geotechnical investigations performed by the Inter-
national Engineering Company, Inc. (1976), Woodward - Clyde
Consultants (1978), and by GEO-HYDRO Consulting, Inc. (1980)
indicated that landslides are present at the site.
