9/30/93
Responses to Comments
San Luis Reclamation Evaluation Report
Page 15
feet of the liner. Based on the discussion included
in this comment, the upper disposal area sampling is
adequate.
The holes which were sampled in the lower area also
represent the entire column. Hole 8 went
approximately 15 inches into the AVR deposited
tailings, Hole x`12 went approximately 22 inca-es into
the AVR tailings, and Hole X13 went approximately 24
inches into the AVR tailings. These samples should
provide a good indication of the effect of both SOZ
treatment and CYTOX on the AVR treated tailings. As
previously discussed, the upper area tailings
samples should provide a good indication of the
behavior of the AVR tailings alone. Here again only
the standing water pool was treated with hydrogen
peroxide. Table 1 is included with this submittal
and shows the approximate depths and which tailings
technique (AVR, CYTOX, INCO) is reflected at that
depth for each hole. The table was developed based
on the surveyed top of hole elevations included on
the auger logs and the elevation of deposition for
each treatment shown on Figure 2.2.
BMRI believes that the samples adequately represent
the full range of treatments to which the tailings
were subjected. However, since sampling of tailings
at depth appears to be an ongoing concern, BMRI
collected additional samples at depth during the
week of September 20th utilizing vibra core sampling
techniques as discussed above.
