Additional Page
1999 Annual Report
Daniels Sand Pit #2
M-73-007-SG
Transit Mix Concrete
Anniversary Date: January 7
Overview of Permit Year: During the 1999 operating year there was a great deal of activity at this site.
This was primarily due to the very active construction market throughout the Colorado Springs area.
Mining proceeded well into Phase 3E as well as into Phase lE South and Phase 2E. Activity in the latter
two phases though was much less significant than in Phase 3E. Little change occurred on the West Side
of Academy Boulevard other than continued backfilling of the northern area.
Annual Report Maps: New topographic maps were prepared in mid 1999 and the annual report maps
for this year are based on that new map. As has been the case in the past, the annual report maps are
divided into two sections, the West Side and the East Side. However, with the new maps available the
accuracy of the site portrayal is increased. Each section (east and west) has two maps. The first shows the
overall affected land and, for the east side, land within the affected land that has not actually been
affected. The second map of each section shows the principle areas where different types of activity
occurred as well as the land that has been temporarily or permanently revegetated. Acreages are shown
on the maps.
Affected Lands: The amount of affected land has increased somewhat in the last year. This increase is
primarily in the Phase 3E area. The same processes of operating the pit are being used as has been used in
the past. However, a series of long conveyors are currently being installed to reduce the need for haul
trucks and increase the efficiency of the operation. This will also aid in the control of dust.
Revegetation: The site is stable and is not subject to erosion.
Expected Activity (2000): Mining will proceed through the remaining portions of Phase 3E and then
begin to move eastward. This eastward expansion will primarily occur in the southeastern corner of
Phase 2E and the southwestern corner of Phase 4E. It appears that the operation is somewhat ahead of
the schedule defined in the most recent amendment. This is primarily due to the unexpectedly strong
aggregate market during the last several years. It is not known whether this strong market will continue.
In a few years, if it does not slow down, some adjustments to the schedule in the permit may be
necessary.
Bonding: This operation is covered by a corporate bond.
Transit Mix Concrete 1999 Annual Report M-73-007-SG Daniels Sand Pit tt2 Page 1 of 1
