The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) maintains gauging stations on both of <br />these streams. Flow in these watersheds is dominated by snowmelt from upland areas. Flow in <br />WY 2005 in both watersheds was above the historical average, as the dry spell from the previous <br />years ended. <br />Average daily flows for the North Fork by month for WY 2005 ranged from 87 percent in October <br />to 153 percent in September, compared to historical data collected from 1934 through 2004 <br />(USGS, 2005a). October was the only month with lower than average historical flows. The <br />average daily flow for WY 2005 was 130 percent (587 cubic feet per second (cfs)) of the historical <br />daily average for the years 1934 through 2004 (453 cfs). The peak flow in the North Fork was <br />5,970 efs on May 22, 2005 (USGS, 2005b).
