• Additional Sheets • <br />Pikeview Quarry 1997-1998 Annual Report <br />Anniversary Date: May 27, 1998 <br />Included with this report aze two maps. Map 1 shows the status of the operation with respect <br />to the land in various categories involving older reclamation and mining. Map 2 shows the locations of <br />Base and Enhanced Reclamation work performed since 1996. The distinction between Base and <br />Enhanced Reclamation is described in detail in the permit. Basically, Enhanced Reclamation is a <br />publicly funded reclamation program that addresses visual impact mitigation. The Base Reclamation is <br />that reclamation performed by Castle Concrete to comply with the permitted plans. <br />Map 1 <br />This map shows the various features within the quarry itself. Permitted lands east of the <br />eastern edge of the map are not shown on the map because there were no changes in that area of <br />sufficient significance to show on a map. Therefore, for the eastern portions of the permit please refer <br />to maps in previous repons. <br />One action included this yeaz in the eastern portion of the permit is the installation of drop <br />structures in the drainage. Other than that, all features east of Map 1 and in the permit are as they were <br />in previous years. <br />Various categories and classes of land are shown on this map. Please note that although the <br />shading for Affected Land is different from other shades and patterns, all land chat is shaded or <br />indicated with a fill pattern is, in fact, affected land. The affected land at this operation has reached its <br />maximum extent. Future expansion of this operation into undisturbed land will be extremely minor, <br />under current plans. That is, under the current permit, this operation has expanded to the largest <br />extent. <br />Following is an inventory of the acreage of the various parcels of land shown on this map. <br />Map Category <br />Acreage <br />Total Affected Land (this map only) 119.62 <br />Previous Reclamation 11.0 <br />Mining 8.0 <br />Topsoil Stockpiles 3.4 <br />Topsoil Stockpiling: Topsoils are continuing to be contributed to this operation from various <br />projects throughout the northern part of Colorado Springs. This soil is being gathered through the <br />combined efforts of the CMRF and Castle Concrete. Much of the reclamation done during the last <br />year utilized some of this soil and although it is still too eazly to determine the compatibility of the <br />soil with the site, initial assessments indicate a reasonably high compatibility. Weed introduction from <br />these soils will be watched closely as that has been a serious problem at Queens Canyon Quarry. <br />Chemical controls may be necessary. This has become a serious problem with using the introduced <br />soils, but the advantages of these soils appears to greatly outweighed the disadvantages. <br />Annual Report Pikeview Quarry 97/98 M-77-211 Page 1 <br />
