Cover Crop
All topsoil stockpiles have been planted with the approved cover crop seed mixture. The
• topsoil windrows north of BB Road and west of 27.00 Road are temporary in nature (<90
days) and so will not be seeded with a cover crop.
New Field Seeding
The 2004 new field seeding consisted of both irrigated pastureland and dryland pasture.
Seed mix # 5 at an application rate of 26 pounds PLS/acre was drill seeded on the former
and seed mix #8 at an application rate of 18 pounds PLS/acre was drilled on the latter.
Exhibit 2004-4 shows the location of the new fields, area, and other details. To assist the
establishment of the seed mix, an oat cover crop was co-planted with the approved seed
mixs at a rate of 75 pounds/acre. The oats were harvested latter in the year as oat hay.
Revegetated Land Fertilizer Rates and Pasture Yields
Fertilizerwas applied once this year. Application was during the spring. Rates varied from
none to 250 Ibs/acre (Exhibit 2004-g). Two types fertilizer mixes were used: 1) a 50/50
blend of 34-0-0 and 18-46-0 and straight 34-0-0. Exhibit 2004-9 shows the NH2 fields
where the two mixes were applied. NH2 first cut yields varied from 824 Ib/acre to 4,843
Ib/acre (Exhibit 2004-11 ), depending on the amount of fertilizer used and frequency of
irrigation.
• Weed and Pest Control Activities
Noxious weed and tree control was carried out in the fall months of 2004. Target species
for trees were Russian Olive and Tamarisk, and for weeds were Russian Knapweed,
Canada Thistle, White Top, and Western whorled milkweed. Spot spraying was done at
NH2, see Exhibit 2004-5. The treated sites were small and random and are too small to
accurately plot on a map, although the general areas are depicted.
BackCountry Weed Management, Colorado License # 11410, of Norwood, CO, treated the
noxious weeds and M&M Custom Farming, the mine's contract farmers, treated the trees.
The principal weed herbicide was Tordon 22KT"" A lesser amount of RodeoT"' was used in
a small area that had ephemeral standing water during the treatment period. The chemical
application rate was 2 quarts/acre. A surfactant and a marking dye were used with the
weed herbicides to maximize spray effectiveness.
The noxious tree control program used undiluted and unaugmented PathfinderT"^ directly
applied to freshly-cut stumps. Label requirements, recommendations and conditions were
followed for all chemicals used in the control programs.
There was no pest control activity.
Acres in Long-Term Mining or Reclamation Facilities
• As shown in Exhibit 2004-12, currently 44.76 acres are held in long-term mining or
reclamation facilities.
(F:\eng\data\word\ann reclaim rpfl2004recrepo.doc)
