The primary purpose of the study was
to assess tVie stability of the design dump configuration with
emphasis on the current placement procedures and the Office of
Surface Mining (OSM11) Interim P.egulations. Our work consisted of
a site visit, review of available design and construction
information, a limited laboratory testing program, and a
stability analysis. The detention dam adjacent to State Highway
13 was excluded from the study.
The overall project consists of an open pit coal mine on
Federal coal lease D-034365, which includes some 2,500 acres.
The spoil from the initial cut is being placed in Streeter
Canyon with tl~e final dump slope to be 3 horizontal to 1 ver-
tical. Approximately 60 percent of the final spoil volume I~as
been placed to date in two stages.
' GOLDER ASSOCIATES, INC., 10628, NE 38th Plnce, Kirkland ISoattlel, Weshinpton 98033, U.S.A. - Phona 1206) 8270777, Telo: 321014
M1II gNIq UI NV~11 V4N1:I 111V L11 (.
