Monitoring site SW-S2-10 (Downstream) with the following
parameters clotted:
total dissolved solids increasing, high values
sulfate increasing, high values
sulfide high values
pH high values
Peabody uses the word exceedance in some of the tables
comparing surface water quality to stream standards. The
Division understands this word is used by Peabody in instances
where values for a particular sample at a sampling site
exceeds some receiving stream standard whether or not that
standard actually applies or whether or not stream mixing has
occurred.
** The Division understands that the Colorado Department of
Health has not designated any receiving stream standards for
Grassy Creek or Little Grassy Creek and that Peabody is using
the receiving stream standards for Fish Creek in the context
of the Grassy Creek Drainage merely as a point of reference in
discussing the results of Peabody's monitoring program for
that drainage. The Division also understands that Peabody's
use of the word "exceedance" for Grassy Creek and Little
Grassy Creek is also used in this context. The Division
further understands that Peabody samples parameters at NPDES
sites beyond what is required in the NPDES permit.
*** "Increasing" refers to parameters appearing to indicate
patterns of significant increase in value since 1981.
