The report indicated that land the reclaimed area owned by Grassy Creek
Coal Company was sampled for vegetative cover and production. The sagebrush/grassland
reference area was sampled for the same parameters in the same manner. Reclaimed property
owned by Mr. John Eilts was not sampled in 1993.
Review of the 1993 vegetative sampling data indicates that, in terms of cover, Sun Coal is
achieving the revegetation success criteria for the Grassy Creek property. The cover data from
1992 indicates the vegetative community is relatively stable in respect to cover, productivity, and
species composition.
The requirement for species diversity has been set at 5 species with relative importance greater
than or equal to 3 percent, with the sum of the five not exceeding 75 percent relative
importance, nor any one species comprising greater than 40 percent relative importance. The
1993 sampling indicated that the predominant 5 species contributing to species diversity were:
Astragalus titer, Bromus inennig Festuca ovine, Agropyron intermedium, and Dactylic glomerate.
These 5 species comprise 73.7 percent relative cover. This is an increase of 16 percent relative
importance over 1992 sampling data. Each of the 5 species comprise at least 3 percent relative
importance, yet not one species exceeds 40 percent relative importance.
If you have questions or are in need of additional information, please contact me.
Sincerely,
Susan L Burg aier
Environmental Protection Specialist
c: Tom Colbert, Agricola
SLB\122193.WP
