2002 RECLAIMED AREA
(Photographs 17-20)
I
Cover
(Table 6)
Native perennial cool season grasses and introduced annual and biennial forbs had the greatest
average cover values: 8.9% and 8.6%, respectively, out of 37.9% total vegetation cover (all hits).
Alfalfa (Medicago sativa), an introduced perennial forb, and cheatgrass (Anisantha tectorum), an
introduced annual grass, were the most abundant species within their lifeforms (3.4% and 3.1%,
respectively). Twolobe speedwell (Pocilla biloba), an introduced annual and biennial forb, was
relatively common, with 2.9% cover.
Total average vegetation cover, for first hits, was 37.4%. Total average vegetation cover, for all
hits, was 37.9%. Standing dead, litter, bare soil, and rock each had 4.5%, 36.0%, 20.7%, and
1.4% cover, respectively (first hits). Average species density was 35.0 species/100 sq.m.
Production
(Table 7)
Total average production was 1329.4 )bs/acre. Native perennial cool season grasses contributed
the most with an average production of 426.5 Ibs/acre (approximately 32%). Introduced perennial
cool season grasses and native perennial forbs contributed a moderate amount (274.8 and 232.0
Ibs/acre respectively).
Woody Plant Density
(Table 8)
Total average density of woody plants was 849.8 individuals/acre, composed entirely of native
shrubs. Big sagebrush (Seriphidium tridentatum) was the most abundant, with 611.1
individuals/acre, prickly rose (Rosa says) was second most abundant, with 153.8 individuals/acre.
Mountain snowberry (Symphoricarpos rotundifolius}, Saskatoon serviceberry (Amelanchier
alnifolia), antelope bitterbrush (Purshia tridentata), and Arkansas rose (Rosa arkansana) had
moderate to fow densities.
2004 RECLAIMED AREA
(Photographs 21-24)
Cover
(Table 9)
In this, the second growing season following seeding, introduced annual and biennial forbs and
native perennial cool season grasses had the greatest average cover values: 17.4% and 9.1%,
respectively, out of 33.6% total vegetation cover (all hits). Prickly lettuce (Lactuca serriola), an
introduced annual and biennial forb, was the most abundant species within its lifeform with 4.3%
10
