4.0 RECLAMATION 4.1 Reclamation Accomplished to Date ' Since the Yankee Gulch Project is presently under construction, very little reclamation has occurred to date. American Soda has however taken a variety of steps to facilitate future reclamation activities throughout the project site. First, topsoil stockpiling was undertaken in all areas receiving surface disturbance. The Piceance Site Processing Facility area, as well as the stormwater pond, and temporary lay down and parking area were stripped of topsoil, which was then stockpiled just to the north of the ' heliport, as indicated on Figure 2. In the well field area, topsoil was removed from each well pad and stockpiled immediately adjacent to each pad for ease of replacement when the pads are reclaimed. Similarly, topsoil was removed from all roads and either ' windrowed to the side of the piles for placement on adjacent fill slopes (Main Access Road) or piled at various locations for later use in reclamation (well service roads). In areas where clearing of pinyon juniper woodland occurred in the well field area, trees were cut or felled with heary equipment and placed in various stockpiles. These ' cut trees will be used for closure of roads and will be used to reduce public access and disturbance after topsoil has been replaced and seeding has occurred. I' At the Test Mine facility on the east side of the permit area, revegetation of the side slope of the Test Mine pad has occurred. A variety of grasses and shrubs have been planted and have reestablished successfully. 4.2 Reclamation Planned for 2000 - 2001 ' For the 2000 - 2001 report year, American Soda intends to begin reclamation actin it it~, in earnest, where appropriate. At the Piceance Site Processing Facility. all areas ' disturbed that will not be occupied by permanent structures/buildings or pavt:nunt will be topsoiled and seeded with the permanent reclamation seed mix as defined in the Reclamation Plan submitted to the DMG for this project. The Temporary Lay Down Area and Parking Lot and the Batch Plant area will also be reclaimed in the 2000 - 2001 report year (see Figure 2). This area will be regraded to its approximate preconstruction contour, the topsoil salvaged from this area will be replaced from the nearby topsoil stockpile and the area will be reseeded with the permanent reclamation seed mix described in the project's Reclamation Plan. Success of revegetation will be monitored in the future and additional measures, such as fertilizing, watering, and/or reseeding will be carried out as necessary to assure successful reclamation of this area.
