Herbaceous Production
Total herbaceous production within the 1985 Reclamation Area was 47.80 g/m2
(426.1 lb/ac). Perennial grasses dominated herbaceous production, accounting for
43.96 g/m2 (391.8 lb/ac) or 92.0 percent of total herbaceous production. Annual
grasses contributed 0.03 glm2 (0.26 lb/ac), or a scant 0.06 percent to herbaceous
production in this area. Perennial forbs provided 3.31 g/m2 (29.5 lb/ac), or 6.9
percent to herbaceous production, while annual forbs accounted for 0.51 g/m2 (4.5
lb/ac) to the herbaceous production. Annual forbs provided 1.1 percent of the total
herbaceous production in this area.
Species Diversity
Within the 1985 Reclamation Area four lifeforms were represented. The total number
of species encountered during cover sampling was thirteen. The sampling encountered
eight species of perennial grasses, two annual forbs, one perennial forb, one succulent
species, and one woody shrub species. Of the species encountered on the 1985
Reclamation Area, eleven were native and two were introduced. Perennial species
outnumbered annual species by eleven to two. Seasonality of 1985 Reclamation Area
species was split between cool season, warm season, deciduous, and evergreen species.
Three graminoids were cool season species and five were warm season species. All
• forb species were identified as cool season. The succulent species was evergreen and
the woody shrub deciduous.
Of the species encountered, five perennial grasses, one perennial forb, and one woody
shrub represented greater than three percent relative cover. These species included;
Calamovilfa longifolia (29.33%), Bromus marginatus (16.67%), Andropogon hallii
(20.00%), Sporobolus cryptandrus (11.33%), Bouteloua gracilis (8.00%), Ambrosia
psilostachya (6.00%), and Artemesia 6lifolia (3.33%).
1986 RECLAMATION AREA
The 1986 Reclamation Area encompasses approximately 47 acres of reclaimed pit in
the central area of the Keenesburg Mine permit azea. The 1986 Reclamation Area is
composed of three parcels (west, central, and east) separated by north-south haul road
corridors. This azea is neazly flat with a gentle slope (< 1 °) to the north and east.
Reclamation and coincident revegetation within this area took place in 1986. Replaced
soils were generally sandy in texture. Specific sampling information for the 1986
Reclamation Area is contained in Table 4 and Table 8.
Vegetation Cover
• Total vegetation cover of the 1986 Reclamation Area was 25.20 percent. Based on
cover sampling, graminoids represented 22.40 percent mean cover (88.19% relative
-8-
