III Illlllllllllllll
STATE, OF COLOI~U
Roy Romer, Gove~
DEPARTMENT OF NATURAL RESOURCES
MINED LAND RECLAMATION DIVISION
FRED R. BANTA, Dlreetor
July 25, 1988
Mr. Dennis Conn
West Elk Co a1 Company
P. O. Box 591
Somerset, Colorado 81434
RE: Mt. Gunnison No. 1 Mine, C-80-007
Dear Mr. Conn:
We have received your quarterly inspection report which included the facial
stability and compaction monitoring results for the lower refuse pile.
The monitoring results of the "B" series slope stahility monuments suggest the
pile has consistently gained elevation by approximately 0.3 feet. This is
probably attributable to a minor baseline surveying inaccuracy, because it is
replicated in each monument's vertical data. However, the relationship
between the monuments shows little change from past surveys, suggesting the
pile continues to perform properly. Please see if this inaccuracy can be
resolved during your next normal survey observation of the slope stability
monuments.
The compaction reports indicate that your personnel are properly working with
the waste materials in order to achieve the required results.
Your entire quarterly report is acceptable. Please feel free to call if you
have any questions.
Sincerely,
Susan J.
