Measuring pH and temperature of each sample.
Filling the required number of sample containers (eight, one-liter brown glass bottles
per sample), taping the containers, and placing them in an iced cooler for transport to
the laboratory.
Completing chain-of-custody records and the groundwater sampling records to
document sample collection, handling, and management.
The groundwater sampling records are attached in Appendix C. Chain of custody
records accompany the laboratory data packages in Appendix D.
3.0 Analytical Results
All of the samples collected were analyzed for the extensive suite of pesticides and
herbicides contained in the analytical methods listed below.
• EPA Method 8081 A, Organochlorine Pesticides;
• EPA Method 8082, Polychlorinated Biphenyls (PCBs);
• EPA Method 8041, Organophosphorous Compounds by Gas Chromatography;
• EPA Method 8151 A, Chlorinated Herbicides by Gas Chromatography.
The following tabulations are the results of the sample analyses. These tabulations also
identify the specific corr~pounds analyzed.
• Table 3 presents the' results of the surficial/shallow soil sample results.
• Table 4 presents the; results of the subsurface soil sample results.
• Table 5 identifies the method detection limits for the analyses reported in Table 4.
• Table 6 presents the groundwater sample analytical results.
The analytical result documentation provided by the laboratory, including quality
assurance/quality control (QA/OC) documentation is attached in Appendix D.
4.0 Conclusions
The owner of the property, Asphalt Specialties Co., Inc., is committed to resolving the
issue of residual pesticides in the soil. They are presently researching appropriate
technologies for the contaminants and concentrations detected, and also cleanup levels
attained at other pesticide-contaminated sites. Asphalt Specialties will be working with
the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) under the
Voluntary Cleanup Proclram to identify appropriate cleanup standards and will address
the site with the CDPHE's assistance.
