The sample matrix here pmven to he yuite a challenge in detertnining wbat
level of satlrahle solid material to report.
ACZ perforou this test by Standard MahoJs 2540 F. Thic technique uses an fmhoft rane m quantitate
settleable solids over a specified amoum of time (1 hour). These samples, specifically the C,uleJ+ A site
(lab number [.87tS9-02) appear m have a colloidal sucpencion that, neither settle mtt physically on the
bottom of the cone or floats on mp of the water layer. The methcal indicates to not include floating
material, but does nor address Ihk type of situation. After the spa:ified hour there does appear to be a
-+ slight separadan haween a water layer and the arlloidal layer, in the nrp few inches of the water
_ column. The colloidal layer rcarl+as all tha way n+ rho luranm of the was The mlluidal layer dory
not appear to he material that looks like typir~l settleable solids. In futi, the material appears to have a
gelatinous nature
Evidently, the measurement procecc as to whether this material is acNally satleable is highly
suhJexKive N rwmrr. Different analysts and supervisory personnel have debated an what m report.
This type of matrix or situation is not addressed in the method.
If you have any questions or further dira~tions an your analysis pmgram please glue me a call at
(800)3345493.
Sincerely.
`J ~ Q.tc1 ~C
Swa Habermeh)
Pmjeex Manages

30fOG• Oownhlp ONrs Phone (800) 33~•3~93
Sf~am6Wf $pninga, CO e0{d~-gtpp /AJ( N6 (a 70) 87822 r6
