placement in the proper seed box. Small seeded species ere broadcast from the small
seed box, while large seeded species ere drilled from the large seed box. All permanent
seedinge were completed in September.
No mulching activities were conducted during 1993. All permanently revegetated areas
received a cover crop of Re-green, a sterile hybrid Acroovron/winter wheat cross. The
cover crop seeding rate was 20 PLS pounds per acre.
Temporary revegetation was Conducted during 1993. Areas seeded included cut and fill
slopes of Heul Road G end topsoil Stockpiles HX end JJ. Seed Mix No. 4, the approved mix
for temporary stebilitetion of road cuts and topsoil stockpiles, was seeded in the fell of
7993. Seed Mix No. 4 is listed fn Table 93.4. Intermediate wheatgrass (Acroovron
in[ermedium) was dropped from the mix end alfalfa was reduced to 0.25 PLS lb per acre
(drilled rate). Broadcast seeding rates were double the drilled rate listed in Table
93.4. The tut and fill slopes on Heul Road G were broadcast seeded and the topsoil
stockpiles were combination drill and broadcast seeded.
Shrub planting during the 1993 season included establishment of a 0.2 acre live shrub clump
transplant area in the reconstructed drainage (see Exhibit 93.3). Approximamtely 30 clumps
were salvaged from adjacent native sites to be affected by ongoing mining operations. The
clumps were salvaged using a 988 front-end loader and transported to prepared sites in the
reclaimed area. Topsoil was placed around the transplanted clumps and the transplants were
"watered-in" from a water truck. The transplants were completed in the fall of 1993 after
the shrubs established dormancy. Principal transplanted species included serviceberry
(Amelanchier elnifolie), big sagebrush (Artemi sic tridentate), mountain snowberry
(SVmohoricaroos oreoohilus ), and associated grasses and fortis.
Monitorino. Revegetation monitoring was not conducted at the Seneca 11-W mine in 7993.
Weed Control. Survey of noxious weeds was carried out on the mine permit area during the
1993 field season. Veed control activities were conducted only along the mine entrance
road and near Pond 006. Canada thistle (Cirsium arvense) was the target species in control
areas. The applied herbicide consisted of a tank mix of 2.5 gallons of 22K Tordon and 0.5
gallons of Banvel with 250 gallons of water. A spot spray gun was used to concentrate
• control activities on target areas. The herbicide mix, based on Colorado State Extension
Service recommendations was mixed and applied under the supervision of a certified
applicator. Yeed control areas will be monitored in 1994.
11
