B. Walker, CDMG
MR-59
September 10, 2002
Skunkbush Sumac will be substituted by increasing Fourwing Saltbrush @ 2.0 seeds/sq. ft.
Squaw Apple will be substituted by increasing Mt. Big Sagebrush @ 2.5 seeds/sq. ft.
The substitution with Fourwing Saltbrush and Mt. Big Sagebrush only involve increasing the rate
of the 2 species already approved and in the list. Seeding rates will ensure an average of 13.3
seeds/sq. ft. is achieved.
Additionally, Colowyo proposes to use hay mulch at 2 tons/acre on 10.5 acres of the 21 acre test
plot.
Minor Revision 58 revised Colowyo's Reclamation Seed Mixture in Table 2.05-7, added a list of
Contingency Substitutions for Table 2.05-7, and n:vised the Shrub Mix for Shrub-only Areas in
Table 2.05-9.
Colowyo is proposing a change to Table 2.05-8 List of Contingency Substitutions for Table 2.05-
7 specific to the subshrub, shrub and tree species. We propose to eliminate Peraohvllum
ramossisimum from the table, We also propose to add Svmahoricaroos rotundifolus to the
substitution list For Table 2.05-8 we have a general proposal of adding language that would
allow us to incxease the seeding rate for an approved plant species instead of choosing a
substitute from Table 2.05-8.
Colowyo is also proposing a change to Table 2.05-9 Shrub Mix to be Planted in Shrub-only
Areas by removing Pereohyllum ramosissium from the mix. This species, although an adapted
native, is at present difficult to impossible to obtain
Colowyo believes that the proposed changes are minor and will provide for additional flexability
with the approved reclamation seed mixtures. The proposed changes an; best demonstrated by
viewing the attached pages. The gray highlights indicate the location in the seed mixtures where
the changes are proposed. Additionally, Colowyo proposes to update the current seed mix
located in Volume 1, on pages 2.05-44 through 2.05-48 with the enclosed pages 2.05-44
through 2.05-46. Pages 2.05-47 and 2.05-48 are left intentionally blank. This update is
administrative in nature and provides for easier viewing of the mixtures.
We appreciate your consideration of Minor Revision 59 and look forvvard to your response.
Sincerely,
tGmberleyA. Wolf
CF 4.1.12
2
