The collection pond averaged 0.29 ppm CN-wad and 0.41 ppm CN-
total.
On July 8,1995, the tailings pcrd sample came back with a pI3 of 16.73.
This unusual pH was caused from human error. To make up for l.ow copper
and cyanide levels, sulfur dioxide was overused to keep INCO running
properly. In order to make up for the sulfur dioxide, caustic: soda and
lime were overused. Two pallets (two tons) of caustic were added to the
system causing the pH to rise. All cyanide levels since July EX have been
below permit levels of 3.8 WAD CN and 4.4 Total CN. levels. And pH
levels in the pond the following day was 8.12.
If ynn ha•.,c~ anv questions, please call.
Sincerely,
Sall Hayes
Environmental Engineer
Enclosures
cc: Anne Baldrige
Dan Robertson
P.O.
