1992 ANNUAL RECLAMATION REPORT
NAME: The Pittsburg & Midway Coal Mining Co.
Edna Mine
P.O. Box 176
Oak Creek, CO 80467
PERMIT #: C-80-001
LOCATION & NUMBER OF ACRES DISTURBED:
Disturbance during 1992 was from topsoil stripping, mining
activity, West Ridge hydrologic plan work, and exploration drill
sites in the Moffat Area. Approximately 56.1 acres of topsoil was
stripped in the Moffat Area. This area is shown in Exhibits 1 and
2 in the attachments. Most topsoil stripped was live handled to
the graded area behind active mining activity except for an
approximately 100 ft. wide strip that was windrowed ahead of
mining activity until ground conditions allow for its haulage and
placement. Mining disturbance areas were limited to the Moffat
Area. This area covered approximately 57.0 acres and is shown on
Exhibit 1 labeled as "Coal Removal Area". West Ridge Hydrologic
plan work involved construction of the first 11 check dams in the
drainage area between Center Ridge and West Ridge and the lower
section of Terrace #eb. The area disturbed for this activity is
roughly outlined in Exhibit 3. These activities were detailed in
a report sent to the MLRD in late 1992.
LOCATION & NUMBER OF ACRES BACKFILLED AND GRADED:
Backfilling and grading activities encompassed a total of 93.2
acres. Of this total 58.3 acres was final grading in the Moffat
Area, and is outlined in Exhibit 1. 10.5 acres involved rough
grading of a section in the Moffat Area that has not yet been
brought to final grade, this location is also shown in Exhibit 1.
The remaining 24.4 acres was final grading activity in the West
Ridge Area as shown on Exhibit 4.
LOCATION & NUMBER OF ACRES TOPSOILED:
Topsoil stripped was from the Moffat area covering 56.1 acres most
being live handled and the remainder windrowed ahead of mining
activity. Topsoil removal areas are shown on Exhibits 1 and 2. A
total of 6111 loads of topsoil were removed and replaced during
1992. Using a Cat 637 scraper struck capacity of 30 cubic yards
this equates to approximately 183,330 cubic yards of topsoil.
Assuming that a strip 100 feet wide by 3700 feet long was
windrowed and not hauled this would mean that the average stripped
depth on a swelled basis was 2.4 feet.
