4. The approved hydrologic monitoring plan requires that monthly field parameters be
collected for Springs #1-6 April through October. Monthly field parameters were not collected
for any of these springs in April. Please provide an explanation for the lack of data in April.
5. Water level monitoring was not provided for well TC-1. On page 1~5, it is stated that
this well is under pressure so water elevation in the Rollins Sandstone cannot be determined.
Please provide further clarification for the lack of water level monitoring.
6. On page 136-137, data aze presented for Outfall 011. Beginning with the July, 1998 data,
it appeazs that Total Fe and TDS data have been transposed. Please clarify this and submit
revised pages.
7. On page ]51, it is stated that S-2 is only sampled when S-1 has flow (spring runoff and
significant precipitation events). This would indicate that other times of the year, the flow at S-Z
would be comprised primarily of mine discharge. Because S-2 is located immediately upstream
of the North Fork, monthly field parameters are useful in identifying any potential impact to the
North Fork of the Gunnison River. The Division requests that Oxbow Mining, Inc. continue to
sample S-2 according to the approved monitoring plan. This includes monthly field parameters
and a quarterly full suite analyses.
8. From the discussion on page 153, it is unclear whether or not Spring #7 produces enough
water during the spring months to obtain a sample for field measurements. Please provide
further clarification for the lack of monitoring data for 1998.
If you have any questions, please call me.
Sincerely,
D
J ~seph.
