Bowie Resources Limited
Bowie No. 1 Mine
• 1999 Annual Hydrology Report
Steven's Gulch Colluvium Groundwater Monitoring Wells:
Shallow groundwater monitoring wells, SM-1 and SM-9 (see Map No. 4-1) aze in the Steven's
Gulch drainage. The wells aze monitored for water quality parameters, water levels, and field
parameters to detect impacts associated with mining in the central pod. Required monitoring
for wells SM-1 and SM-9 was semi-annually during 1998 for water levels and field parameters.
Well SM-1 is next to areas mined in 1991 and 1992 but showed no apparent impacts in the field
data collected during 1999. Well SM-9 was undermined by Panel C during 1993 but showed no
apparent impacts in the field data collected during 1999. No anomalous water quality
observations were apparent during 1999 at the Steven's Gulch shallow groundwater monitoring
wells.
Surface Water Monitoring Stations -SPRINGS
East Roatcap Creek
Two springs were monitored in the East Roatcap Creek drainage (refer to Table 1 and Map No.
4-1) during 1999. The springs were not accessible during the first quarter monitoring because
of the lingering snow-pack. Spring 30 had measurable flow in June. Water quality parameters
taken in June were consistent with previous sampling at this site. Spring 30 was first
. undermined in Aptil,1983. Spring 10-10 had no measurable flow in June, September and
December therefore, no water quality parameters were taken. Spring 10-10 was encompassed
by the angle-of--draw of Panel Y during October, 1993. Subsidence impacts were not apparent
at either of these locations during 1999.
West Roatcap Creek
Four springs were monitored in the West Roatcap Creek drainage (refer to Table 1 and Map
No. 4-1) during 1999. Spring 31 was monitored on a monthly basis and exhibited flows
throughout the year with the flow tapering off in the fall. Water quality parameters were
consistent with ranges previously established for this site. No mining occurred within the
watershed for this spring in 1999 and no mining impacts were evident. Spring 32 was
monitored monthly. Spring 32 exhibited flow throughout the year with the flow tapering off in
the fall and winter. Water quality parameters were consistent with last year's sampling. Spring
] 0-13 was monitored quarterly. Flows, as a result of a seemingly dry year, were reduced or non-
existant and field parameters observed at this site were consistent with baseline values. No
mining occurred during 1999 in the Spring 10-13 watershed. Spring 14-4 was monitored
quarterly. Flows and field parameters observed at this site were consistent with previous
values. No mining occurred during 1999 in the Spring 14-4 watershed.
Steven's Gulch
One spring was monitored within the Steven's Gulch drainage (refer to Table 1 and Map No. 4-
1) in 1999. Spring 25 Ges below an area of the East mine inactive since 1982. This site had no
measurable flows in July, September and December and Geld parameters were consistent with
prior measurements. Spring 25 has been identified as an adjudicated water right within the
permit area.
Page 4
