A4ountain Coa! Company 1997 Annual Hydrology Report {Vest E/k Mine
then be checked by MCC once the lab data aze obtained. MCC will then know immediately if a
• parameter has been missed and request that the lab perform that analysis or, if holding times
have expired, resample the resource. The data will then be entered into the water resources
database and checked for accuracy. This process will ensure that MCC continues to collect the
data required by the monitoring program and reduce the number of missed parameters.
Operations
With the encotmter of inflows from the B East Mains fault in WY96 and the 14 SEHG fault in
WY97, the management of mine water has become more complex. In response, MCC has
installed additional pipelines and flow meters and is upgrading their mine water treatment
processes. In addition, as approved in Minor Revision No. 208, MCC will begin sampling and
reporting in the AHR more detail on mine inflows. Flow measurements, field pazameters, and
water quality samples will be taken as close to the inflow source as feasible for flows that aze
greater than 5 gpm and/or last longer than 7 days. If the inflow is continuous, an initial sample
will be obtained, and then sampled at least annually thereafter. These additional measures will
provide additional information on the mine water balance and reduce the probability of adverse
impact to the North Fork.
Conclusion
On the basis of the recent changes and anticipated future changes to the monitoring program,
WWE concludes that the hydrologic monitoring program with are adequate to establish the
• extent to which mining activities are impacting water resources in the area.
D.\831-032WSOjmk\1997 AHR\1997 AHR.doc
•
83 - 2.450 Page rig t arer ngineers
