2 .
s 3 . Location and Number of Acres in Various Stages of Reclamation
p Vegetation is developing on the 51 acres of the old dump site ,
and on approximately nine acres in Cuts 1 and 2 . The approxi-
mately 30 acres of Cut 3 has been backfilled, and is scheduled
for top-soiling and seeding in 1988 .
4 . Species of Vegetation Planted, the Location and Dates of Planting
No new seeding was done in 1986 . See 1985 Annual Report for
the seed mix used in presently developing areas .
5 . Type and Approximate Quantity of Fertilizers , Organic Material,
or Soil Conditioners Used and Location of Use .
No fertilizers or soil conditioners were used this year, however ,
application has been made for a permit to use sewage sludge from
the Fremont Sanitation District .
6 . Appraisal of Results of Reclamation Efforts
Areas seeded to grasses continue to develop . More trees have
been transplanted by a different technique , and appear to be
surviving.
7 . Estimates and Location and Number of Acres to be Affected in the
Coming Year .
No new disturbance is scheduled for the 1986-87 year .
S . The effective date of the information provided above , and as
outlined on the included map , is October 1 , 1986 .
9 . A new system of dust disposal is being implemented . Beginning
in 1987 , waste dust will be trucked from the plant and deposited
in conjunction with the overburden strippings in the active
backfill areas . The volume of dust is projected to be approxi-
mately 87 , 000 yd3 to be deposited with 1 . 9 million yd3 of
overburden in 1987 . The ratio of dust to overburden is projected
to be less than 5% . The dust will be dumped down the backfill
face which normally measures 80-100 feet in elevation, thus
most of the dust will be deeply buried in a short period of
time , and wind erosion controlled . The surface will then be
topsoiled and revegetated in the normal sequence of reclam-
ation . The waste dust is classified as a non-hazardous waste .
This is a formal request for a Technical Revision to Permit
No . 77-344 , to incorporate the waste dust from the plant in
the backfill of the mined-out areas of the Portland Quarry.
Paul E . Thomsen
Sr . Mining Engineer
