We feel the approved reclamation plan is progressing satisfactorily and
according to the timetable in the original application.
In January of 1989, the Board of County Commissioners approved a 35 acre
expansion of our Ralston Dike Quarry. This expanded area lies directly East
of the present operation. As of this writing, the only- activity on our
expanded site was fencing. The entire area has been fenced and is now
secure. There has been no other activity to date.
ADDITIONAL RECLAMATION INFORMATION
•
Location and numbers of acres affected this Year:
SE 1/-1, NE 1/2, E 1/2, SE 1/2 of Sec. 5, T 3 S, R 70 W, and SW 1/-1, NW 1/~1,
and W 1/2, SW 1/'l, Sec. 1, T 3 S, R i0 Sr, Jefferson County 70 total acres.
This surface area has increased. Rock removal continues to be from *.he high
rock wall face and has resulted in enlarging the area to the North.
Number of acres reclaimed this Year
Surface areas reclaimed: 2~ I/2 acres to date.
Number of acres in various stages of reclamation:
There was new acreage reclaimed.
Acres back filled: 1
.acres graded: 1
Acres revegetated: 120 to date!
Topsoil acres replaced: 6 acres previously topsoiled
With our present quarry activity involving the "high wall" the same quarry
floor area continues to be in constant use.
Species, locations and approximate planting dates of vegetation:
Species: 20% Rye, 5% Blue Gramma, i5% Wheat Grass
This mixture is being used on all the seeding areas (level surface
areas, berms, and road backslopesl.
Approximate dates of planting: October 1980; April, 1981; October, 1981;
October, 1983; October, 198; October, 1985; November, 1990; September 1991.
No fertilizers required to date.
Appraisal of the success of reclamation efforts:
The previously seeded areas continue to do well. We have found that when
seeding, rolling or compacting the seed into the topsoil is necessary to
prevent wind loss and insure a higher rate of ground corer. Normal rain this
year has produced acceptable grass.
Estimate of the number of acres to be affected this coming year:
We anticipate 2 acres will be started beginning this summer season. This 'l
acres will be a continuation to the North along the "high wall" area.
