OWL CANYON CULTURAL RF_SOUkCE~ENVIRONMENTAL RECONNAISSANCE
Colorful adventurers like the Spanish Conquistador General Juan de
Ulibarra, the Mexican bandito Juan Mace, Civil War military columns,
Stage Stop operators, and many other historic settlers all have realized the
importance of the proposed mining area. Its geographic location on a
major trail system, good water supply, timber, wildlife, grasslands, and a
sheltered canyon werejust as inviting to the first waves of European
immigrants as it obviously was to the American Indians who first settled
this land.
