y
ANNUAL REPORT
Permit No: M-S1-057
Operation Name: Sprague-Red Lyons
Map Summary:
Along with several other items, the attached colored map shows the applicable extent of current disturbances
and the new disturbances that aze anticipated to occur during the upcoming yeaz if our 1 ] 2 permit is approved at
the State and County levels.
New Disturbances for the Upcoming Year:
We have shown the new disturbance area on the map. This disturbance will be contingent upon the granting of
the I ] 2 permit for which we have applied. We anticipate that we may Gave three quarry areas that may consist
of up to five acres each. However we have included about thirty acres in our affected area to cover any azeas
that we may have disturbed in the past or may disturb in the future. It is our commitment to reclaim any areas
that we have disturbed. However it its necessary to understand that the entire area shown on the map has old,
preexisting quarries or predisturbed .u-eas, many of which have large trees growing in them. It also contains a
lot of undisturbed native grass to the east and across the east road that we do not plan to disturb. At this time, i
is our intention that disturbances only occur for the purpose of gathering moss rock, turning trucks around or
walking in those areas. Please note: we have actively quarried in the three azeas that we now have as quarries
(9.9 acres total) and have only disturbed 8.2 acres in 29 yeazs.
Reclamation Accomplished to Date:
Many of the areas in the quarries have, over the yeazs, spontaneously reclaimed themselves without any active
reclamation on our part. As Mother Pdature takes its course and trees and native vegetation re-seeds itself into
disturbed areas, the trees, plants and ,grasses are encouraged to grow and we try not to disturb anything we don't
have to.
The Sprague-Red quarry is being mined on an on-going basis and we have not actively reclaimed the azea to
date. To do so would have been a wtiste of valuable reclamation resources and time.
Reclamation Planned During 'the Coming Year:
The light blue area on the map shows the #2 quarry where rocks were inadvertently pushed over the edge during
the development of the quarry. We have scheduled an excavator to retrieve the rocks that can be accessed
without danger and then we will revegetate the area with topsoil and native plants, if necessary.
Operations Status:
We operate the Lyons quarries on a seasonal and as-needed basis. Operations in that quarry resume annually
during fair weather, when the azea ca~i be typically found without frost, ice, much precipitation or high winds.
Sufficiency of Financial Warranty:
Our reclamation bond is guaranteed by an irrevocable letter of credit from the Berthoud National Bank,
Berthoud, Colorado, and on file with your office, acknowledging the liability at $6840.00. We believe at this
time that this is a sufficient value.
