BANTA, Director
January 17, 1989
Mr. Allan S. Weaver
Energy Fuels Co a1, Inc.
Southfield tdine
P.O. Boc 449
Florence, CO 81226
Re: Southfield Mine (Permit C-81-014)
1987 Annual Hydrology Report
Dear Mr. Weaver:
I have reviewed the Annual Hydrology Report for the period from June, 1987 to
May, 1988. The report satisfies Permit Stipulation 2 pertaining to continued
hydrologic monitoring, and also Stipulation 6 addressing water balance in the
Southfield mine.
The only question I have concerns two minor discrepancies between Plate 1
(Mine Inflow Location Flap) from the 1986-'87 report, and the same Dl ate from
the current report. Inflow #6 from the 1986-'87 report is not indicated on
the map from the current report, and is not discussed. Has it dried up, or
was it inadvertently omitted? Similarly, inflow n4 of the 1987-'88 report is
not mapped or mentioned in the previous report, and is not discussed as a new
inflow. Is this a seep which has developed within the past year?
From an examination of your groundwater and surface water monitoring data, I
see no serious impacts from the mining operation. Although the levels of
Sodium Absorption Ratio and dissolved iron and manganese are high in certain
cases, there is no long-term increase in these parameters as yet.
I appreciate your inclusion of all previous monitoring data with the latest
report; this makes comparison much easier.
Sincerely,
~~~ Q . ~2
William B.
