Additional Page
2003 Annual Report
Winkler Light Aggregate Quarry
M-1989-065
Centennial Materials, Inc.
Anniversary Date: April 26
Overview of Permit Year: During the 2002/2003 operating year [here was a great deal of activity at this site.
Most of the operation remains much as it was last year. The small northward expansion of the Main Quarry that
occurred last year was not completed and will be the primary location of mining during 2003. There was limited
activity at the Cut Stone Quarry partion and that disturbance remains rather small and essentially identical to
last year. One additional small shot was done on the west, but the increase in area is so small it is not actually
definable on the map.
Annual Report Maps: Enclosed axe four color maps showing the primary areas of disturbance and the type
of disturbance occurring in each area. Map 1 shows the entire site and is primarily a guide map. Map 2 includes
the Cutstone portion and Maps 3a and 36 show the information for the Main Quarry area.
Affected Lands: The amount of affected land remains at 88.5 acres, as it was last year. However, 5.1 acres
were successfully seeded.
A significant portion of the total affected land is contained in the access road. The Cut Stone portion
amounts to about 5 acres, including the access road to that site. The remainder is involved in the main quarry
operation, stockpiles, and office area. The plant remains located down in the quarry hole. The stockpIles are still
kept out of the quarry hole, but some stockpiling is done near the plant, as is usually the case.
Revegetation: In the main quarry area, 5.1 acres were seeded. Considering the severity of the drought in 2002,
it is amazing that the seeding was as successful as it was. Although some bare patches are present, most of the
area shows good germination and establishment. This was the first actual quarry reclamation implemented.
Additional land is being prepared fox reclamation.
Expected Activity (2003/2004): The Cut Stone quarry area will undergo considerable change. The cut stone
stockpile location has been moved to the main quarry area where the cut stone can be distributed more
efficiently. The former area of the stockpile is being cleaned and will be revegetated in the next year. That will
reduce the amount of unxeclaimed disturbance in this area. Other portions of this part of the operation will
remain as they currently axe. A secondary cut stone stockpile on the southwest side of the main quarry may also
be eliminated and reclaimed.
A large soIl stockpile has been completed on the southeast side of the main quarry and will be seeded in
the next year. Some additional backfilling will occur in the main quarry in preparation for additional
reclamation.
In the event the mining on the north end of the main quarry is completed in the next year (not likely),
then development will begin on the south end of the quarry in preparation fox moving south. This was expected
to occur last year, but as it turned out there was more than enough material left on the north end of the main
quarry area to supply the needs and the remainder will likely supply the needs fox the next year.
Bonding: This operation is covered by a self bond. A copy of the latest financial statement is enclosed (only
provided to DMG).
M-1989-065 Winkler Light Aggregate Quarry
Schmidt Construction Company 2003 Annual Report Page 1 of 1
