Fdmnry 1001 Haman GJdi Tarsun~ /z • 7000 Arran! N~dogy Rix[ ~ Pate 3
' 3.0 HYDROLOGIC MONITORING
3.1 SAMPLING AND MEASURING TECHNIQUES
Field conductivity and pH metes were calibrated prior to each days use. The conductivity meter was
calibrated using a potassium chloride solution with an electrical conductivity in the 78 to 6,668 micro-
' Siemens per centimeter (NS/cm) range. The pH meter was calibrated usmg NBS traceable buffers
with pH values of 7 and 10. Groundwater level measurements were taken with a water level indicator.
Surface water flow was measured with a Flow Probe ponable velocity meter.
'
Table 1, CDPS Avs~jtiral List, presents the parameter list for the ®PS samples. Table 2, Srnfa¢ Water
Aml~lital List, shows the laboratory analyses for the surface water samples. Table 3, GmcrEutuer
' Aml~ttta! List, presents the laboratory analyses for the groundwater samples. Analyses were performed
by ACZ Laboratones, Inc. (ACZ) of Steamboat Springs, Colorado. ACZ performs all analyses by
EPA or equivalent methods. Samples were hand-delivered to the lab the day of collenion in an iced
' cooler.
3.2 SURFACE WATER DATA
' 3.2.1 CDPS Monitoring
There are two CDPS monitoring sites at the Loadout, the Truck Loop Pond (Outfall OOIA), identified
' as NPDESIH in the data summary tables, and the Rail Loop Pond (Outfall 002A), identified as
NPDES2H in the data summary tables. The locations of the two CDPS monitoring saes are shown
on Figure 1,MautwirgSveLarntio:Map.
' During 2000, no discharge was observed at either site. Appendix A includes a listing of water quality
statistics for previous years tior the Loadout ®PS sites.
Per the requirements of the CDPS permit, No. COG-850008, quanerly Discharge Monitoring Reports
(DMRs) were submitted to the appropriate regulatory agencies. Copies of the 2000 DMRs are
provided in Appendix B, ®PS Discharge Monitoring Reports.
'
3.2.2 Stream Monitoring
' Two stream monitoring locations were sampled in the vicinity of the Loadout along Dry Creek.
Permit specified monitoring consists of semi-annual (spring and fall) monitoring for flow and water
quality. The upstream surface water monitoring site (HGSDI) is located approratnately 1.5 miles
' upstream of the Loadout permit boundary. T'he downstream surface water monitoring site (HGSD3)
is located imtnediately downstream of the Loadout. The locations of HGSDl and HGSD3 are shown
on Figure 1,MvctorvigSiteLa¢uwnMap.
' Surface water quality data For 2000 are included in Appendix C, Swfa¢ Water Qualiry Data. Water
quality analyses for bath HGSD1 and HGSD3 indicates that constituent concentrations were generally
within the range of previously observed values. The only constituent with a value outside its
' previously reported range was boron. The June sample at HGSDl had a boron concentration of 0.27
milligrams per liter (mg/1), which was slightly higher than prenously observed values (the previous
maximum concentration was 0.23 mg/1).
