• JACKSON COUNTY ROAD SUPERVISOR
HAROLD S. GEER
COUNTY OF JACKSON
PO. BOX 488 188 GRANT STREET (970)723-4481
WALDEN,CO 80480
August 10, 2001
Colorado Division of Minerals and Geology RF-CENED
1313 Sherman St., Room 215
Denver, CO 80203 AUG 13 20r1
RE: RILEY GRAVEL PIT, M-1978-266. ANNUAL REPORT Division(it Minerals and Geuing;
Gentlemen:
The County of Jackson, State of Colorado, operates the Riley Pit sand and gravel extractive operation
on the permitted acreage of 3.844 acres located on private lands in the NW'/4 of Section 15, Township
7 North, Range 78 West of the Sixth Principal Meridian. This construction materials operation is
conducted under a lease agreement for the mining of sand and gravel that was executed by and
between the private landowner, Rocky Mountain Ranch, LLC, and Jackson County. A total of one
thousand forty-four (1044) yards of material was removed from the Riley Pit during calendar year
2000. The removal of this material is reflected in the updated schematic contour map of the affected
area (SEE ENCLOSED SCHEMATIC CONTOUR MAP OF RILEY GRAVEL PIT - STATUS AS
OF 12/31/2000).
Preliminary survey work was accomplished in the Riley Gravel Pit area in the fall of 1999 and it was
determined that the a portion of the west fence was not on the correct property boundary alignment.
This portion of the boundary fence was relocated during 2000 to be on the surveyed west property
boundary. Preliminary survey results also indicated that at some time in the past there had been
limited overburden removal outside of time currently permitted acreage. Approval was obtained from
the private landowner to expand the area to be included under a lease agreement for sand and gravel
extractive operations and for filing a permit amendment to expand the permitted acreage.
In late July, 2000, the surveyor prepared a Permit Perimeter Survey plat with legal descriptions that
provided Jackson County options on the size of area to be included in a new lease agreement with the
landowner and options on the areas to be phased into the permitted acreage through a permit
amendment. The County is evaluating different mining plans, reclamation plans with the associated
final estimated land contour to determine what appropriate permit amendments or permit applications
need to be filed to appropriately increase the permitted acreage to encompass those lands anticipated to
be impacted during future extractive operations. In addition, new mining plans and reclamation plans
are being evaluated to result in a final reclaimed contour of the area with slopes that are 5h:Iv, or at
that slope that would be recommended by Division personnel.
If you have any questions regarding this Annual Report, or if you require additional information,
please do not hesitate to contact me at your earliest convenience.
Sincerely.
Mv
Harold S. Geer
Jackson County Road Supervisor
xc: file
enclosures: as stated
