:~
.~
~~~ I~~I~~I~~I I
STATE OF COLORADO
Roy Romer, Governor
DEPARTMENT OF NATURAL RESOURCES
MINED LAND RECLAMATION DIVISION
DAVID C. SHEL7ON, Director
DATE: April 22, 1987
T0: Jeffrey Deckler
FROM: Candace Thompson
RE: COLOWYO 1986 ANNUAL REPORT, C-81-019
I have reviewed the hydrologic portions of the Colowyo Annual Report. I also
reviewed the Streeter Fi11 Monitoring for stability. No significant movement
outside the existing trends was noted. You may want Jim Pendleton to review
this data further. He also has reviewed the swell factors in the past. They
are proposing a change in monitoring of swell factors as suggested in
Pendleton's memo of 1985. This may require a technical revision.
My observations on the hydrologic portions follow, The Colowyo description of
the monitoring at the sites in fairly thorough, so to avoid reiteration of the
same, I have noted only those trends I saw that they did not describe.
Upper and Lower Goodspring Creek
A decrease in calcium was noted in 1986 on the graph for Upper Goodspring. No
data in tabular form supports this decrease. It appears to be a plotting
error,
Taylor Creek
There is no data given in the tabular form for magnesium levels for Taylor
Creek in 1986. Is this data available and, if so, please supply it. Note:
The enclosed stiff diagrams of Taylor Creek utilized 1985 mg levels for
plotting.
Streeter Fill Wells 6600 N and S
The 6600N Well is showing a trend toward increasing SAR up to 6.2 in October,
1986, The 66005 Well does not show the high SAR levels. No impact to
Goodspring Creek is evident. The 6600N Well is of poorer quality than the
66005 Well. The enclosed Piper Trilinear diagram shows the 66005 Well to be
of the same type of water as the Goodspring and Taylor Creek water, 6600N is
significantly different. The enclosed stiff diagrams show the concentration
of major constituents of Well 6600N to have decreased significantly since the
1982 data. Sodium has increased, but sulfate has decreased significantly,
423 Centennial Building, 1313 Sherman Street Denver, Colorado 80203-2273 Tel. (303) 866-3567
