Loukonen, 160 acres with legal non-conforming sand stone quarry
in Lykins Gulch west of Highway 36
Dear Jim,
The above site was conveyed to the Loukonen family in 1940. Initially,
approximately 600 tons of rip rap stone were removed and a cutter was installed
on the smaller North line 1 acre quarry by 1954. Subsequently, the greatest
extraction, 6000 tons, was removed after 1962 from the 5 acre centrally
located quarry for the production of National Center for Atmospheric Research
aggregate.
The continued open mining on the 160 acre parcel preceeded the Special Use
permit requirements far such activities as established in 1978. However,
the ongoing stone quarrying is governed by the limited impact grading and
excavation permit criteria as adopted in 1980. Per visit with Leonard
Loukonen, a maximum disturbance area will total approximately 10 acres for
which the P9ined Land Reclamation Board is encouraged to proceed with the
limited impact permit process on the Lykins Gulch Loukonen Quarry without
conflict from the local zoning jurisdiction.
Sincerely
Iu~ ~.
Iw'- (,~
Thomas J.
