• Introduction
The information assembled in this 1992 Annual Hydrology Report (AHR) includes data
collected from approved monitoring sites established at Peabody Western Coal Company~s
(PNCC) Seneca II-Y Mine (State Permit No. C-82-057). Locations of monitoring sites
discussed in this report can be found by referring to Exhibit 7-1, Hydrology Monitoring
Map.
All references to 1992 will be for Neter Yeer 1992 (October 1, 1991 through September 30,
1992) unless otherwise noted. All tables referred to in the following text can be found
in Appendix A. In addition, a table of contents for Appendix A is given et the beginning
of that appendix. Figure 1 (Appendix A) shows the area mined in 1992.
Permit Revision 1 for the Seneca II-N Mine was put into effect on October 4, 1991. This
version substantially changed the hydrological monitoring program. This new program is
detailed in Tab 15 of the Seneca II-N Permit Application Paekege (PAP). In addition to
changes in monitoring frequencies, new wells end stream sites were added. Those new sites
• will be discussed in t he following ground water and surface water sections.
Field conduetivi[y end pX meters were calibrated prior to each days use. The conductivity
meter is calibrated using a 0.01 molar potassium chloride solution with an electrical
conductivity of 1413 umhos/cm. The pH meter is calibrated using NBS traceable buffers
with pH values of 7 and 10.
Prior to October 1, 1989, ell field conductivity values found in water quality reports are
not corrected far temperature (i.e., 25° C). Field conductivity data from October 1, 1989
to March 7, 1990 were collected using a YelLOw Springs Instrument Model 33 Meter that does
not compensate for temperature. That data has been corrected to 25° C using the following
formula:
where:
K =conductivity at 25° C
Km = measured conductivity at t°
C =tell constant = true conductivity of a standard/measured conductivity of a
• standard (assume 1.0 if cell constant is not given)
t° = temperature at which Km was determined, in °Celcius
