Based
on results of initial 1991-1994 mining and monitoring, future operations/monitoring will
be evaluated. Monitoring activity in 1990-1994 exceeded the required BLM, EPA and
State DMG requirements for initial cavities. The water year is generally recognized as
October-September for reporting, however, in 1993 and 1994 significant results were
noted and reported in November-December. Figure 5-1 illustrates location of monitoring
wells completed in 1989-94.
6.1.2 Sco[~e
Hydrology monitoring concentrates on ground water monitoring as there are no perennial
• streams or springs located on the sodium leases. HRS Water Consultants were
contracted to project the crone of depression based on current plant location and projected
water well pumpage raters. An evaluation of possible springs on the lease and pumpage
effected areas was conducted in 1990. No spri~~gs were found within the cone of
depression based on a review of USGS and BLM~urvey results, and field inventory.
Therefore there are no spring monitoring results.
6.1.3 Stream Gauging Stations
As required by the ROD, (project Record of Decision from EIS) , WRN contracted for
surtace water monitoring of water quality and quantity, upstream and downstream of the

45
I
