The access road <br />crosses portions of Sections 25, 26, 35, and 36 of T.1 S., R.98W. and Section 31, T.1S., <br />R.97W., and Section 6, T2S., R97W. Figure 2-1 shows the four sodium lease tracts, <br />plant site, access routes for right-of-ways for electrical power, natural gas, monitoring, <br />water and production wells, and road to the plant site. <br />2.3 Leasehold Status <br />The sodium leases were issued July 1, 1971. Following exploration drilling and bulk <br />sampling by solution mining, permit applications to allow construction and operation of a <br />3 ton-per-hour (TPH) pilot :solution mining facility were submitted on October 4, 1983 and <br />approved February 9, 1984. On May 2, 1986, an EA fora 6 TPH pilot-scale operation <br />was approved by the BLM. On November 20, 1987 the BLM approved the project plan <br />for acommercial-scale (125,000 TPY) nahcolite solution mine. Construction started in <br />May, 1990 for the plant facility. The four sodium leases were renewed by the BLM, <br />June 28, 1991 for a ten year period effective July 1, 1991. Approval for unitization of the <br />6 <br />f <br />>,~-~ <br />
