iii iiiiiiiiiiiiiiii
999
DIVISION OE MINERALS AND GEOLOGY
Depanmeni of Natural Resources
1313 Sherman 51., Room 215
Denver, Colorario 80203
Phone: (3011 866-3567
FA%: (307) 8328106
DATE: December 24, 1996
II~~~
DEPARTMENT OF
NATURAL
RESOURCES
TO: Larry Routten c Ve ~o;`
dames S Lochhead
FROM: Dan Mathews Executive Direnor
Michael B. long
RE: Red Canyon 1996 Annual Hydrologic Report olvision ohec~or
File C-81-034
Enclosed is a copy of the recently submitted AHR, along with a
review checklist that I filled out, documenting that all monitoring
and reporting currently required by the permit was performed, and
included in the AHR, with one possible exception. We had requested
some time ago that the operator provide analyses of the irrigation
runoff water which would supply the sediment pond/permanent stock
pond postmining. I had assumed that those analyses would be
included in the AHR but evidently they were not, and I will look
into this.
I am requesting a review of the report by appropriate team
hydrologists with respect to the report's analyses and conclusions
pursuant to the PHC. Also, the mine will be eligible for final
bond release in 1999, and I would request that the reviewing
hydrologists give some consideration to final bond release
requirements in reviewing the monitoring plan.
I believe past AHR's are on file in a binder on the public shelves
along with the permit application package, and the enclosed AHR
should be filed there when the review is completed. Previous
years' AHR review correspondence should be on file in the
appropriate public file drawer.
STATE OF COLORADO
Please have whomever does the review give me a call if they have
any questions, or can't locate needed information.
