Lochhead
Execmive Dueuor
Michael B. Long
Urvninn Director
Enclosed is a copy of a memo from Dan Mathews of the Division
regarding his review of the above referenced Refuse Area
Revegetation Study. The salient points which need to be addressed
or acknowledged in the final report are outlined below and expanded
upon in Dan's memo:
i) Figure 4 is misleading, because the reference area cover
value of 11.9$ excludes shrub cover. Please include
shrub cover in the reference area cover value.
2) Of the forbs listed in the seed mix, only Utah sweetvetch
and globemallow are likely to be successful in
revegetating the refuse piles. The Division suggests
that WFU consider removing arrow leaf balsamroot from the
seed mix and adding other forbs such as small burnet,
palmer pentstemon, etc.
3) The Division recommends increasing the seeding rate to 40
PLS/sq. ft.
4) Please explain why the units of #/600 m2 used for woody
plant density when the plots were 900 mz?
5) Transect data with woody plant numbers by species should
be included in Table 2.
6) The woody plant density for the reference area is high
and may be difficult to achieve in a reasonable time
period. WFU might consider requesting a reduction in the
standard.
