• measurements were made during 1995 to cover the full range of stage/flow
observations needed for the stage/flow curve to represent all stages of flow.
Gver the 1994-1995 seasons, a total of five cross-sections (two in 1994
and three in 1995) were developed and compared to ensure channel stability.
All of the cross-sections varied no more than three-tenths of a foot at each
measurement point along the section. The variation among the cross-sections
was primarily due to the specific placement of the survey rod on the creek's
cobble lined bottom. An averaged cross-section was then developed for use
with 13 sets of velocity data to compute a stage/rating curve. The stage
rating curve data covered flows ranging from approximately two cfs to 85 cfs.
The equation and rz for the curve are as follows: y = 13.817x3.1636 where y =
flow in cfs and x = depth of flow; rz = 0.98.
Instantaneous flow and continuous flow records are provided for TR-b.
Instantaneous flow records for this location began in 1989. Prior to this
time, flooding which occurred during 1984 caused continual instabilities in
the stream channel at this location for several subsequent years. As a
result, re-establishing a monitoring station was not possible.
• In 1988, a new stable reach of the stream channel was located and a
monitoring station was re-established. However, the majority of the 1989
season was spent developing a stage rating curve for the channel cross-section
with flow measurements being taken on a sporadic basis rather than in
conjunction with water quality sampling periods.
Instantaneous flow measurements were made at TR-b during 1989 in
conjunction with water quality samples taken at TR-D, except for the October
sampling period. Between the sampling periods of September and October in
1989, beaver activity both above and below TR-b occurred causing the location
of TR-b to become part of an inundated beaver pond.
High flows, in part due to beaver activity, destroyed the staff gauge at
TR-b in 1990 and again in 1991. As a result, no instantaneous streamflow data
was collected in 1990, while 1991 had one measurement in May.
All sampling periods between April 1992 and July 1993 had flow
measurements and water samples taken on the same day at TR-b and TR-D.
Between the sampling periods of July and August 1993 beaver activity had
resumed below TR-b rendering the station unsuitable as a flow monitoring
location. In June 1994, a continuous flow monitoring station was installed at
• a new location downstream of the previous location. Calibration flow
measurements taken at TR-b during 1994 only covered a small range of flow
4
