• sulfate value at TR-4 of 2165 mg/1 in August 1992 are believed to be
analytical errors as the sample points before and after the sample dates are
more consistent with overall trends.
Dissolved Iron/Manganese
Dissolved iron (Figure 31) and manganese (Figure 32) levels for the
three alluvial wells remained low during 1995 as in previous years. However,
fluctuations in concentrations for both parameters began to occur during 1994
and 1995 at TR-1.5. The fluctuations appear to be related to the other
parameter changes at this location, but are less pronounced. A decreasing
trend for both iron and manganese appears to have occurred at all of the other
locations, except for TR-3 (iron) and 41R-1 (manganese), over the past decade
with a state of equilibrium being reached in 1990. Iron has typically shown a
seasonal fluctuation at TR-3, except during 1994 and 1995. This pattern is
not clearly understood, but may be related to the mining activity in the
Moffat area. It is interesting that WR-1 often contains the lowest values for
dissolved iron for the majority of the time beginning in 1990.
. Since 1988, a sharp increase in manganese concentration has been noticed
for the first portion of the annual monitoring period at WR-1 with a
significant decrease occurring by the end of the year. This may be a further
indication of an annual flushing which may be occurring in the spoils aquifer.
Orthophosphate/Nitrite
•
Orthophosphate (Figure 33) and nitrite (Figure 34) were added to the
monitoring program in 1988. All values obtained from 1988 through 1995 for
these parameters have been low with most being below detection limits
(Appendix B). Fluctuations in the concentration of these parameters also
began to occur during 1994 at TR-1.5.
Chloride/Potassium
Chloride and Potassium (Figure 35) were added to the parameters list in
1994. Due to the short record for these parameters, any trend analyses for
these parameters is considered speculative. However, the differences between
the various sites appear to mimic the patterns observed among the other
parameters.
42
