' The return water system consists of two sepazate components. These are the wtlection pond pump
back system and the sputter embankment pump back system. The collection pond pump back
' system picks up water from the seepage collection pond sump via two submersible pumps and
transfers the water to the pump station which in turn boast the water to the upper or lower
impoundment surface water ponds. The second system picks up decanted impoundment surface
' water from the sputter embatt{rntent wells and transfers the water to the mill for rerycling
' The tailings delivery pipeline was designed and constructed to transport the tailings slurry to the
impoundment area. The tailings pipeline exits the mill via the tailing delivery ditch. At the junction
of the tailing delivery ditch and the upper tailings impoundment the pipeline "Y's" and runs in both
' directions around the impoundment. During the initial deposition the tailings slurry will be routed
toward the main embart]Qttent and point discharged in the lower impoundment. Deposition points
' are located on 100-ft intervals around the impoundment perimeter with the exception of the main
embankment deposition points which are located on 50-ft intervals.
1.1 Contractors
1 Five contractors and two engineering groups were utilized to construct the tailings disposal facilities.
The five contractors were Twin Mountain Rock Company (TMR), Goodie Construction
Corporation, Seaot Corporation, Gagle Company inc., and CoNEL Inc. Steffen Robertson and
' I{irsten (U.S.), Inc. (SRK) performed QA testing and observation for the construction of the
facilities. Russell Engineering performed survey for the project facilities construction.
' Tdrin Mountain Rock Compatty was contracted to supply the heavy equipment, operators, and
supervision to construct the earthen structures and prepaze the impoundment foundation for the
' synthetic liner installation. Their scope called for excavating, placing, and compacting approximately
2.4 million CY of earth.
' Gundle Construction Corporation, Gagle Co., and Serrot Corporation, were contracted to supply
and/or install the synthetic liner products for the facilities. There contrails called for supplying,
' shipping and/or installing approximately 5.3 million SF of synthetic liner products.
' CoIYEL Inc. was contracted to install the collection pond pump station facilities and sputter
embankment decant channels. Their scope called for supplying and installing the pumps, electrical,
and the appurtenant facilities associated with the pump station and to fabricate and install the
t sputter embanluttent decant channels.
1
1
2
