<br />', <br /> <br /> <br /> SITE DESCRIPTIONS <br /> <br /> Three active mine sites in south-central Colorado operated by <br /> CF&I Steel Corporation are included in the investigation. Dolomite is <br /> mined at the Canon City Quarry three miles west of Canon City, Colorado. <br /> Limestone is mined at the Monarch Quarry 19 miles west of Salida, <br /> Colorado. Coal is underground mined at the Allen Mine 30 miles west of <br /> Trinidad. All three mines are operated by CFBI to provide materials for <br /> the production of steel. Barren waste from mining is present at each of <br /> the three mine sites. The mines are at different elevations and are in <br /> differing climatic zones.
