• ADDITIONAL COMMENTS •
SAND PIT
PERMIT #~ M-77-213
PIT CONDITION: This pit continues to be under the control of Transit Mia Concrete, a sister
company of Castle Concrete, although the permit is still in the name of Castle Concrete. In the near
future this will change. An amendment currently in preparation for Transit Mis'e Pit M2, which is
adjacent to this operation will merge the two permits into one permit and one reclamation plan.
Transit Mix is continuing to ball this pit and eatract sand from the remaining reserves.
The backfilling, as indicated in the 1985 permit amendment, is being done with washing fines
derived from the processing of sand at the Transit Mia operation. Such sediment basin work is
necessary for the mining and processing of sand. However, because the sediment basins are being
established in accordance with the reclamation plan final topography, the balling is also part of
the reclamation work. It will be many years before this backfilling process can be completed and the
land placed under final reclamation.
MAP: The map included on the following page shows the condition of the operation as of May 14,
1992. Note the location of sediment basins on the west side of the operation. After those are
completed, more ponds will be established in the eastern portions of the operation. Potentially there
could be another layer of pond construction on the northern third to half of the pit bottom.
Also note the location of mining. Once this is completed, no further mining will be done.
C;enerally, all stockpiling, other than temporary stockpiling, is now done in the Transit Miz permit
area. Also, note the existence of asphalt and concrete products that have been or will be crushed as a
recycled product.
The first land to be placed under final reclamation will be the side slopes leading down to the
completed ponds. This might be started in the neat year, but it is more likely it will not be started
until the following year.
Page 1 Supplemental Sheet M-77-213 1992 Annual Report
