information regarding the geology of the mine permit area can be found in Volume 2, Tab 6 of the
mine permit application.
•
Mine Production and Design
During 1998 and 1999, only the Roadside North Portal Mine produced coal. The area
mined is shown on Figure 1, 1999 Subsidence Surveys. The overburden in the areas mined at
Roadside North Portal Mine ranges from approximately 1,800 feet to approximately 300 feet in the
current mining district. Extraction ratios vary from 43% where a 60 foot by 120 foot entry spacing
is used to 68% where second mining occurs. During 1999 mining was conducted in the 2ntl West
Panel which in turn initiated the development of the Cameo C Seam. The Roadside South Portal
Mine was not in production during 1998 or 1999.
Projected Mining for 2000
Adverse economic results caused by difficult mining conditions and poor coal quality have
caused a cessation of all coal production during December of 1999. No production is scheduled
for either mine during the calendar 2000 year.
• Surface Inspection
Stipulation 12 of the mining permit application requires that surface inspections (pedestrian
surveys) of the mining area be conducted in the spring and fall of each year. The 1999 inspections
were conducted on July 23 and December 15, 1999. The areas inspected during the survey are
shown on Figure 1, Roadside North Portal, 1999 Subsidence Survey.
No subsidence related features were noted during the pedestrian surveys. There are no
reports of subsidence or subsidence related problems from any adjacent landowner or utility
company.
Although high cover minimizes the expression of subsidence features on the ground
surface, no subsidence features were noted in the area above the Roadside North Portal Mine.
The route traversed was directly over the area where the 2ntl West Panel was second mined.
Particular attention was given to those areas in the topography where slumps or cracks would be
more apparent, such as ridge lines.
No manmade or specific natural features have been undermined at the Roadside North
Portal Mine during 1999. The attached photographic review of Jerry Creek Canyon depicts the
• canyon itself, the steep nature of the canyon walls and the dry, ephemeral stream channel of Jerry
Creek.
1999 Subsidence Report Page 3 12/29/99
