0 o v
v
( O

iiiiiuiiiiiiiiiiii
For J. A. Kiger October 7, 1994
WEST PIT EXCESS SPOIL FILL CONSTRUCTION UPDATE AND CERTIFICATION
During the quarter beginning July 1, 1994 and ending October
1, 1994, I inspected the area in which the West Pit Excess Spoil
Fill is being constructed. The purpose of these inspections was to
observe the on-going construction of the rock drain, inspect the
area from which the clay material was removed, inspect the fill for
areas of water seepage or surface drainage, inspect the toe filter
layer and to satisfy the requirements of CDMG Rule 4.09.1(lla).
During the inspections it was observed that all the clay
materials have been removed from the bottom of the drainage area
between stations 0-30 to 20+50 of the West Pit Excess Spoil Fill,
the rock drain had been successfully completed from stations 0-30
to 9+00 of the West Pit Excess Spoil Fill and the toe filter layer
is complete from stations 0-30 to 2+00. Two small slide areas were
discovered, one above the elevation of the rock drain in the area
of stations 1+50 to 2+50 and the other at the elevation of clay
removal in the area of stations 2+50 to 4+00. During the quarter
several other notable events have occurred in the Excess Spoil Fill
Area. The following dates reference the major events that have
occurred during the quarter.
July 6, 1994 -begin removing clays from the rock drain
area of the West Pit Excess Fill
July 11, 1994 - begin excavation of the buttress fill at
the toe of the West Pit Excess Fill
July 13, 1994 - finish excavation of the buttress fill at
the toe of the West Pit Excess Fill
July 14, 1994 - begin backfill and compaction of the
buttress fill at the toe of the West Pit
Excess Fill
July 15, 1994 - complete backfill and compaction of the
buttress fill at the toe of the West Pit
Excess Fill
August 10, 1994 - begin placing rocks in the west Pit
Excess Fill Area at station 3+50 and
push them to Station 0-30, 30 feet
beyond the toe of the fill
