A summary of the affected areas to date is given as follows: Additional Area Affected the Past Year: 0.6 ac. Approximate Area Affected to Date: 9 ac. 2. Location and Number of Acres Reclaimed the Past Year Most of the disturbed area remains active. No reclamation took place the past year. 3. Location and Number of Acres in the Various Stages of Reclamation Due to a reduction in demand for brick the past several years, and reorganization of the company, the rate of mining has been considerably less than originally anticipated. The attached map portrays the disturbed areas to date. The mining plan involves the removal of a knoll, mined in a southerly direct- ion. Backfilling of overburden is not involved in this oper- ation because a pit is not created. 4. Location and Species of Vegetation Planted No revegetation has been completed because most of the disturbed area is used for various purposes (stockpiling, overburden place- ment, and mining of underlying clay beds). However some natural invasion of grasses has occurred on the northeast portion of the overburden dump where calcined-clay overburden was deposited a few years ago. In general, vegetation is hampered in the other clay-rich waste materials at the Dawson Mine, but appears to be able to tolerate, somewhat, a medium involving the calcined clays. 5. Types and Quantity of Fertilizer Used Not applicable at the present time. 6. Appraisal of Reclamation Efforts Not applicable at the present time. 7. Estimate of the Area to be Affected in the Coming Year Approximately 0.5 ac. of additional area will be affected in the coming year as illustrated on the map.
