Box 774018 <br />Steamboat Springs, Co 80477 <br />RE: Southfiald Mine Refuse Pile Stability Evaluation, <br />File No. C-81-014 <br />Dear Mr. Nettleton: <br />Mr. Jim Pendleton has reviewed the proposed stability evaluation for the <br />refuse pile at the Southfield Mine. It is acceptable to evaluate the <br />stability as outlined in the November 1, 1991 letter, using the results of the <br />1988 Geowest study, with one caveat. EFC must be certain that the material <br />currently being placed and proposed to be placed on the waste piles is similar <br />to the material sampled in 1988. In other words, if processing modifications <br />have changed the texture of the waste in the last three years, it would be <br />prudent engineering to run a representative sieve analysis. <br />Please include a copy of the 1988 Geowest study with your final submittal. We <br />would anticipate receipt of this stability evaluation on or before <br />January 15, 1992. <br />Sincerely, <br />Catherine W.
