No.: Primary Refuse Dis
Inspection Period: Third Quarter 2002
Inspection Date: 09!29/02
General Description or Reference to Site Plan:
Raton Creek Mine is in final reclamation. All required structures have been removed,
the area brought to final grade, mulched and seeded. Areas of lesser vegetation
density were inter-seeded in 2000.
Activity During Inspection (Including General Observations):
Area was inactive thoughout the quarter.
Ground cover was dry at the time of inspection. Increased erosion as evidenced by rill and gully
formation was noted. (There was reported to have been several incidents of heavy precipitation in
early September). Vegetation was sparse due to an extremely dry spring and summer. The
clean water diversion ditches exibited little siltation. Gabion lined portions of these channels
exhibited well established vegetation.
Drainage: (Discussion of springs. seeps, overland and_channel flow, underdrain construction and/
or discharge, integrity of 100-year 24-hour drainage structures, and evidence of positive drainage).
No springs or seeps were observed on the refuse side slopes. Positive drainage is established on
all areas. Vegetation has been established on reclaimed areas with some minor rilling on more
sparsely vegetated areas. Drainage and diversion structures were intact with some sediment
accumulation noted on the west facing diversion ditch above and to the south of the water tank.
Underdrain construction has been completed.
Observation of Fill Construction: (Description of material, compaction, lift thicknesses, slopes,
and construction methods).
Structure has been completed to final grade.
